Central Illinois – A significant shift in Central Illinois weather is on the way, with a cold front set to bring elevated fire risks and freezing temperatures. After enjoying an unusually warm Saturday with highs nearing the upper 80s, Sunday will see cooler, breezy conditions. These gusty winds will increase fire danger, especially in dry areas across the region. Residents are urged to take precautions against outdoor burning and fire hazards.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday’s high will drop to the mid-70s, with gusty winds creating fire risks along routes such as I-55 and Route 66. Temperatures will plunge overnight to the low 40s, setting the stage for an even colder week ahead.

Starting Monday, Central Illinois will see daytime highs in the upper 50s, followed by overnight temperatures in the mid-30s. Patchy frost is expected Monday night, especially in northwest areas. By Tuesday, conditions will worsen as frost and freeze warnings extend across much of the region. Lows could fall as far as 30 degrees overnight in some areas, particularly along I-72, creating potential hazards for crops and outdoor plants.

The cold snap will persist into midweek, with temperatures expected to remain in the 30s during the night through Wednesday. Residents should protect sensitive plants, outdoor equipment, and monitor local weather alerts for updates.
