Springfield, IL – Central Illinois residents should prepare for severe weather as thunderstorms and strong winds are expected to impact the region late Friday into Saturday. While Thursday remains relatively quiet with a few isolated showers, conditions will deteriorate Friday night as an intense line of storms moves through.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Central Illinois, thunderstorms will develop late Friday evening, particularly near and south of I-72 and US-36. These storms may bring heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and the potential for localized flooding. Wind gusts are expected to increase significantly, with sustained windy conditions lasting through much of Saturday.

Temperatures will also be unseasonably warm on Friday, nearing record highs with highs between 78-80°F. As the cold front moves through, temperatures will drop into the 50s by Saturday morning. Residents should remain alert for changing conditions and potential weather warnings.

The NWS advises residents to secure outdoor objects, stay updated on weather alerts, and be prepared for possible power outages. If traveling Friday night, caution is urged due to rapidly changing weather conditions and reduced visibility in heavy rain.
