Champaign, IL – Central Illinois residents are urged to prepare for strong winds expected tonight into Tuesday morning, as gusts may reach 50 mph. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from 6 p.m. Monday through noon Tuesday for central, east central, and west central Illinois.

According to the advisory, sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are anticipated, with gusts topping 50 mph. Areas along major roadways, including I-55 and I-74, could see reduced visibility due to blowing debris. Officials recommend securing loose outdoor items and exercising caution while driving, especially if operating high-profile vehicles.

The wind advisory coincides with a rainy Monday night forecast, transitioning to clearer skies Tuesday. Tuesday is expected to be breezy but mostly sunny, with highs near 64 degrees. Winds will taper to 15-20 mph by the afternoon.

Looking ahead, Wednesday brings a mix of sun and clouds, followed by a chance of rain or snow Wednesday night. Highs will drop to 48 degrees Wednesday and 40 degrees Thursday, with nighttime lows dipping into the 30s.

Residents are advised to monitor local weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during the advisory period. Stay alert for potential power outages and fallen tree limbs, which may disrupt the area.
