Lincoln, Illinois – After a warm stretch to start the week, central Illinois is set for a major weather shift beginning Wednesday evening. Scattered showers and thunderstorms could bring wet roads and reduced visibility, particularly north of I-72, with storm chances peaking between 50% and 70% overnight Wednesday into early Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a cold front moving through the region late Wednesday will end the recent run of highs in the 80s. Temperatures will drop sharply, with Thursday’s highs ranging from 67 to 73 degrees, followed by upper 40s to low 50s overnight. Friday will remain cooler, with highs in the mid to upper 70s and continued dry skies.

Residents in Decatur, Springfield, and Bloomington should prepare for potentially stormy commutes late Wednesday. Outdoor plans should be moved indoors by evening, and drivers are urged to slow down during rainfall to avoid hydroplaning.

Looking ahead, the cooler air settles in through the weekend, but no additional storms are currently expected after early Thursday. More updates may be issued as storm timing and coverage become clearer.
