Central Illinois – A Heat Advisory has been issued today for areas from Macomb to Effingham southward, as these regions are least likely to be affected by clouds and thunderstorms during the afternoon. Expansion of the advisory into Wednesday is expected.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, today’s highest heat index values will range from 99 to 109 degrees across the region, with similar conditions likely on Wednesday and Thursday. These days are predicted to be the hottest of the week, accompanied by dangerous humidity levels.

Dense fog is impacting areas north of I-72, including Danville, reducing visibility to below a quarter mile in some spots. The Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. today, with rapid improvements expected thereafter.

Severe thunderstorms are also a possibility this afternoon and evening. The potential for wind gusts exceeding 70-75 mph exists, primarily west of I-57. Residents should stay alert for any severe thunderstorm watches or warnings issued throughout the day.

By Friday, temperatures are expected to moderate, returning to typical early August levels, with highs in the 80s and reduced humidity. However, daily chances of thunderstorms remain, with a 30-40% likelihood through the weekend.
