Champaign, IL – Central Illinois residents should prepare for a bitterly cold Thursday morning as wind chill values are expected to drop below zero. A strong cold front is moving through the region today, bringing gusty winds and scattered rain or snow showers tonight.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln, a wind advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. to midnight for areas north of I-70, with wind gusts reaching 50 mph. This combination of strong winds and plunging temperatures will create hazardous driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and use caution when traveling.

Temperatures tonight will plummet to the teens, with wind chills ranging from -5 to -8 degrees by early Thursday morning. Thursday will see sunny skies but a high of only 23 degrees. The bitter cold will persist into Thursday night, with lows around 11 degrees.

Looking ahead, Friday offers slight relief with sunny skies and a high near 29. Temperatures will warm further over the weekend, reaching the low 40s Saturday and near 50 on Sunday. Rain chances return late Sunday, potentially continuing into Monday.

Residents should dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure during the coldest periods, and ensure pets are brought indoors. Stay updated on the latest weather advisories to remain prepared.
