Central Illinois Arrest: Wanted Texas Felon Nabbed by Danville Police With Help From K9 Unit

Danville, Illinois – A Texas man wanted on a warrant was arrested in Danville Saturday afternoon after a brief foot chase during which he reportedly dropped a loaded firearm, according to local police.

Around 4:30 p.m. on April 19, officers with the Danville Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit attempted to stop 24-year-old Richard B. Sanford-Beasley near Butler Street and East Williams Street. According to the department, officers had prior knowledge that Sanford-Beasley, a Danville resident, was wanted out of Texas.

When officers approached, Sanford-Beasley fled. One officer, assisted by a K9 unit, pursued him on foot. During the chase, officers observed him drop a handgun, later confirmed to be loaded. Sanford-Beasley was quickly apprehended with help from the DPD K9.

He was taken to the Vermilion County Public Safety Building and charged with being Wanted on a Warrant, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer.
