Atlanta, Georgia – Moderate to heavy rainfall returns this weekend across North and Central Georgia, bringing widespread totals of 1 to 2 inches and prompting travel concerns into Sunday.
According to the US National Weather Service in Peachtree City, rain will move into the region during the day Saturday and continue through Sunday. Forecasters expect most areas to receive between 1 and 2 inches of rainfall, with localized totals of up to 3 inches possible.
The heaviest rainfall is currently projected from Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon. Rain chances increase significantly overnight Saturday, with precipitation probabilities reaching 70% to 90% in several metro areas by early Sunday.
Cities including Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Columbus, and Rome are expected to see steady rainfall during that window. While widespread severe weather has not been indicated in this update, periods of heavier rain could create ponding on roadways and reduced visibility.
Commuters traveling Sunday morning and early afternoon may experience slower traffic conditions, particularly along major corridors including I-75, I-85, and I-20.
The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor updated forecasts as rainfall timing or totals may shift.
This system marks the return of measurable rainfall after recent quieter conditions across the region.
