Macon, GA. – Sweltering heat will grip central and eastern Georgia on Sunday, with heat index values soaring as high as 106 degrees and a heat advisory in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the advisory covers Macon, Warner Robins, Vidalia, Dublin, Milledgeville, and dozens of nearby cities and counties. Officials warn that extreme temperatures and humidity could quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke for anyone outdoors.

Key counties impacted include Bibb, Houston, Laurens, Baldwin, and Peach, as well as Upson, Wilkes, Morgan, Greene, and Toombs. Roads and neighborhoods in these areas may see increased emergency calls, and outdoor workers face higher risk for heat illnesses. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration urges residents to limit outdoor activity, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned places, and stay hydrated. Checking on elderly neighbors and relatives is especially important.

With temperatures climbing past 100 and the threat of heat-related illness rising, residents should prepare now and avoid strenuous activities. The heat advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday, and further alerts could be issued if conditions persist.
