Atlanta, Georgia – High humidity and afternoon sun will push apparent temperatures over 90°F across central Georgia through Sunday, with the greatest heat risks concentrated in Columbus and Macon.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, heat indices are expected to climb past 90°F between 2 and 4 p.m. each afternoon from Friday through Sunday. Columbus faces the highest risk, with a 90% chance of exceeding that mark on Friday, followed by a 70% chance on Sunday. Macon follows closely, with afternoon peaks reaching 89°F to 91°F and a 60% chance of hitting 90°F on Sunday.
In Atlanta and Athens, apparent temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 80s, with lower—but still notable—humidity-driven discomfort. Rome will remain slightly cooler but not immune, with afternoon highs near 83°F.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, hydrate frequently, and ensure pets and vulnerable individuals remain in cool environments. While isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop, they’re unlikely to relieve the muggy conditions during the afternoon hours.
The risk of dangerous heat index values is expected to drop off by Monday morning, but additional alerts are possible if humidity lingers.
