Atlanta, Georgia – Heavy rain continues to drench much of Georgia tonight, putting residents from Atlanta to Macon on high alert for flash flooding through Monday evening. Roads, creeks, and low-lying neighborhoods are at risk after widespread downpours have already dumped up to five inches in some areas this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, additional rounds of scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected across central, north central, northwest, and west central Georgia into Monday. Forecasters warn that saturated ground means even moderate rainfall could quickly lead to street flooding, swollen streams, and fast-rising creeks. The Flood Watch covers nearly 60 counties, including Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb, Bibb, Muscogee, and Houston.
Drivers across metro Atlanta, Marietta, Macon, and Columbus should prepare for hazardous conditions—especially in neighborhoods with poor drainage or along smaller rural roads. Officials urge residents to avoid walking or driving through flooded roadways, keep phones charged, and have an evacuation plan ready in case water levels rise overnight. Those in flood-prone zones should monitor weather alerts and be ready to move quickly if warnings are issued.
The Flood Watch remains in effect until Monday evening, but more advisories may follow if storms persist. Stay tuned for updates and use caution until the threat subsides.
