Florida – Multiple weather advisories are in effect across east central Florida, with strong winds Sunday followed by freezing temperatures and dangerously cold wind chills overnight into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect Sunday for much of the region, with west to northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. The advisory runs from late morning through late afternoon, depending on location. Officials warn that gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects, bring down tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages. High-profile vehicles may experience difficult driving conditions.
Beginning midnight Sunday night through 9 AM EST Monday, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect across a wide portion of central Florida. Wind chills are expected to fall as low as 24 to 29 degrees, creating hazardous conditions for those without adequate warmth or shelter.
In addition, a Freeze Warning is in effect for inland areas including Volusia, Lake, Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and southern Lake counties, where overnight temperatures may drop to around 29 degrees. Frost and freeze conditions could damage sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Areas impacted include Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Okeechobee, Volusia, Lake, Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Martin counties, affecting communities such as Orlando, Melbourne, Titusville, Daytona Beach, Sanford, Kissimmee, Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, and Okeechobee.
The National Weather Service urges residents to secure loose outdoor items, protect tender plants, and bring pets indoors. People are also encouraged to check on older adults and neighbors and to use space heaters safely. Grills and generators should never be used indoors.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after mid-morning Monday as temperatures rise and winds ease.
