Orlando, Fla. – Record-challenging heat is baking Central Florida on Tuesday, with highs reaching the mid-90s and peak heat index values climbing as high as 105°F in several inland cities.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, temperatures are expected to top out near 96°F in Orlando, Sanford, and Kissimmee, nearing or matching longstanding records from 1935 and 2017. Leesburg and Fort Pierce are also expected to hit 94–96°F, while coastal spots like Daytona Beach and Melbourne could see highs in the low to mid-90s.
The heat index—how hot it feels with humidity—will range from 100°F to 105°F during the afternoon hours, raising the risk of heat-related illness. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak sun, and seek air-conditioned spaces.
While conditions remain mostly dry, the NWS notes a 20% chance of isolated storms or showers near sunset, especially east of I-4 and west of I-95 south of Cape Canaveral. These could offer brief relief but may also bring gusty winds.
The heat is expected to linger through midweek. Additional advisories may be issued if temperatures trend higher. Stay tuned to weather.gov/melbourne for the latest updates.
