Orlando, Fla. – Scattered storms with dangerous lightning and brief gusts up to 50 mph are expected across East Central Florida through late Sunday, bringing flooding concerns and a high risk for rip currents along the coast.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, deep tropical moisture combined with a stalled front and southwest winds will lead to numerous afternoon and evening storms, especially from Leesburg to Melbourne. Rain chances are near 80% in Orlando, Kissimmee, and Sanford, with slightly lower coverage near the Treasure Coast.

Storms may produce deadly lightning, ponding on roadways, and brief but intense wind bursts, especially along I-4 and US-192. Coastal areas including Daytona Beach and Vero Beach face an increased risk for rip currents and dangerous beach conditions.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, monitor local alerts, and delay outdoor plans during peak storm hours (2–7 p.m.). Boaters and beachgoers should remain alert for rapidly changing weather and seek shelter at the first sign of thunder.

Storm chances remain high into the workweek, with rain and lightning likely each afternoon. Additional advisories could be issued if storm intensity increases.
