Orlando, Florida – Scorching heat is tightening its grip on Central Florida today, with dangerous heat index values climbing to 110°F in parts of Orange, Volusia, Lake, Seminole, and Osceola counties through 7 p.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a heat advisory is now in effect across the region—including Daytona Beach, Orlando, Kissimmee, Titusville, and Melbourne—warning of oppressive humidity and soaring temperatures through Saturday evening. The advisory stretches from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., with inland and coastal areas alike facing serious heat risks.
Residents in Orlando, Sanford, Altamonte Springs, and Apopka will see peak heat index values between 108°F and 110°F. In Brevard County—including Titusville, Cocoa, Rockledge, and Palm Bay—heat indices will hover from 104°F to 108°F. Heat illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke can develop rapidly in these conditions, especially for those spending extended time outdoors.
Local officials urge everyone to limit time in the sun, stay hydrated, and wear lightweight, loose clothing. Try to schedule strenuous activities for early morning or after sunset. Check on elderly neighbors and relatives, and never leave children or pets in vehicles—even for a few minutes.
Today’s advisory follows a week of relentless summer heat across the state. This event rivals previous late-July heat surges seen in 2020 and 2023.
The current advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday, with additional warnings possible if oppressive heat lingers into Sunday.
