Melbourne, FL – Breezy onshore winds and rising moisture are bringing rounds of scattered showers and isolated downpours across east-central Florida today, with forecasters warning of minor coastal flooding and beach erosion through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, strong east winds of 15–20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, will continue to push moisture inland, producing periodic showers and rainfall totals of up to 3 inches in some areas.
A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for the entire east-central Florida coast, including Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin counties. High tides, expected around 5–9 a.m. and p.m. each day, are running 1–3 feet above normal, which could flood low-lying roads, canals, and driveways near the Intracoastal Waterway.
Large breaking waves between 5 and 8 feet are forecast to create dangerous surf and rip currents, while moderate beach erosion is possible. Officials advise drivers to avoid saltwater-flooded streets, as it can cause vehicle damage.
Temperatures will remain steady, with highs in the mid-80s from Orlando to Vero Beach, and rain chances near 50% through the weekend.
