Orlando, Florida – Temperatures will slip to 31 degrees before sunrise Tuesday, cold enough to form frost on exposed surfaces and threaten pipes, plants and pets across central Florida.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Monday, with wind chills dipping to 29 degrees in parts of Volusia, Lake and Seminole counties. A Freeze Warning then takes effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, when sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 degrees are expected. A second Cold Weather Advisory during that same window will drive wind chills down to 24 degrees.

The warning stretches from Orlando, Kissimmee and Sanford to Daytona Beach, Titusville, Palm Bay west of Interstate 95, Okeechobee and Saint Cloud. Inland areas of Orange, Osceola, Lake and Brevard counties face the greatest frost risk, especially in low-lying and rural locations.

Residents should cover tender vegetation, wrap outdoor pipes and bring pets indoors before 2 a.m. Allowing faucets to drip slowly can help prevent pipe bursts. Check on elderly neighbors to ensure heating systems are working properly.

Temperatures will climb above freezing after 9 a.m. Tuesday, but additional cold alerts remain possible if clear skies continue into midweek.
