Orlando, Fla. – Afternoon storms will remain a near-daily threat in Central Florida this week, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning hazards through at least Thursday night. Heat index values could climb as high as 102 degrees by Monday afternoon before storms develop.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, storms are expected to build each afternoon, mainly after 3 p.m., producing rainfall amounts of a half to three-quarters of an inch in some areas. Winds could gust up to 20 mph Tuesday and Wednesday, adding to already steamy conditions.

The most persistent activity is expected along the I-4 corridor, including Orlando, Sanford, and Kissimmee, where commuters should plan for slow-moving evening downpours. Outdoor events may also face interruptions as storms roll through with lightning risk after sunset.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and avoid flooded intersections, as ponding water may develop on low-lying roadways. Residents are encouraged to keep devices charged in case of brief power outages caused by lightning strikes.

Storm chances remain elevated through Thursday, before tapering slightly by Friday. Another round of widespread showers is possible by Saturday, keeping Central Florida unsettled into the weekend.
