Orlando, Fla. – Central Florida is in for a stormy stretch starting Sunday afternoon, with Orlando likely seeing heavy thunderstorms by nightfall and throughout Memorial Day. With outdoor celebrations planned across the region, officials urge residents to stay weather-aware and plan for sudden downpours.

According to the National Weather Service, a 50% chance of storms develops after 2 p.m. Sunday, intensifying to 60% by Monday afternoon. Storms could begin as early as Sunday night, with thunder and showers continuing through Memorial Day. Highs will reach 93°F Sunday and hover near 90°F most of the week, making this a muggy and potentially hazardous start to summer.

On Monday, expect showers and lightning from 2 p.m. onward, especially near major roadways like I-4 and SR 408. The threat continues into Monday night with a 60% chance of storms. If traveling for Memorial Day, delay return trips until Tuesday afternoon if possible.

Tuesday brings a continued 60% chance of storms, especially late in the day. South and east winds up to 10 mph could push storms inland from the coast, affecting evening commutes. Wednesday’s pattern stays wet with afternoon storms likely, followed by more thunder chances into Thursday and Friday.

Looking ahead:
Temperatures remain in the low 90s throughout the week with nightly lows near 75°F. Summer-like conditions dominate the five-day outlook, with daily storm chances and elevated humidity. Stay alert for weather updates and avoid flooded roadways during downpours. Memorial Day weather alerts remain in effect through Monday night.
