Orlando, FL – A line of strong storms is pushing inland across Central Florida this afternoon, bringing gusty winds, large hail, and frequent lightning to metro areas including Orlando, Kissimmee, and Sanford.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, storm activity is expected to intensify inland through late afternoon and sunset. The greatest storm coverage is anticipated before 7 p.m., with the highest impacts occurring away from the coast as the sea breeze boundary moves westward.

Potential hazards include wind gusts between 45 to 55 mph, with isolated gusts exceeding 60 mph possible. The weather service warns of up to a 15% chance for damaging winds in some locations. Hail measuring up to one inch in diameter and frequent lightning strikes are also expected. Tornado risk remains low at this time.

Storm-affected areas include Orlando, Sanford, Titusville, and Melbourne, with possible impacts extending into Okeechobee and Vero Beach. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects, monitor local alerts, and remain indoors during thunderstorm activity.

Drivers should exercise caution, as sudden downpours may reduce visibility and create hazardous road conditions during the evening commute. Updates are available at weather.gov/melbourne.
