Orlando, Fla. – Central Florida’s hot and stormy pattern continues this week as daily chances for thunderstorms increase, bringing heavy rain and potential lightning during peak travel hours. Highs will reach the mid-90s through Friday, with heat index values topping 102 degrees before storms develop.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will return Wednesday afternoon, most likely after 11 a.m. Storm coverage grows stronger late week, with Friday and Saturday carrying the highest chances — up to 70 percent Saturday. Localized flooding and frequent lightning are possible with stronger cells.

Orlando International Airport and downtown commuters should prepare for slowdowns on I-4 and the East-West Expressway during the evening rush, when storms are most likely. Residents across Orange, Seminole, and Osceola counties may also see brief power outages as storms roll through.

NWS advises residents to limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water, and secure outdoor items that could be blown around in gusty winds.

Storm chances remain in the forecast through the weekend, with the next break in widespread rain possible early next week.
