Orlando, Fla. – After a stretch of sunny days, storms are set to return to Central Florida this weekend, bringing the potential for heavy rain and lightning across Orlando and surrounding counties. Highs will stay near 90 degrees, but the added humidity and afternoon thunderstorm chances could create challenging travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, isolated showers could develop Saturday afternoon after 2 p.m., with storms becoming more widespread by Sunday. Overnight lows will remain muggy in the mid-70s, providing little relief from daytime heat. Winds out of the northeast at 5 to 10 mph may gust up to 20 mph during stronger cells.

Localized downpours could slow traffic on major roadways including I-4 and Florida’s Turnpike during peak afternoon hours. Residents are urged to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions and seek shelter quickly if thunder is heard. Outdoor events on Sunday may face delays or cancellations as storm coverage increases.

Storm chances continue into early next week, with scattered thunderstorms possible each afternoon through Wednesday. Conditions may briefly improve midweek before another round of storms late in the week.
