ASTOR, Fla. – The St. Johns River near Astor continues to spill over its banks Friday night, prompting the National Weather Service in Melbourne to keep a Flood Warning in effect for Lake and Volusia counties. Water levels remain within the moderate flood stage, with low-lying yards, campgrounds, and roads near the river seeing minor flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, the river measured 2.9 feet Friday evening — slightly below the recent high of 3.0 feet but still above the 2.3-foot flood stage. Flooding has reached areas such as the parking lot of the Juno Trail Apartments and portions of Alligator Road and Holiday Road. Water is also encroaching on low-lying areas near Wildhog Road and McPherson Lane.
Residents are urged to use caution near flooded roads and avoid walking or driving through standing water. Campers at Astor Landing and nearby sites should monitor conditions closely as water levels are forecast to remain steady or just below moderate flood stage through the weekend.
The NWS will issue the next statement Saturday afternoon, and additional updates can be found at weather.gov/safety/flood. Flood warnings remain in effect until further notice.
