Melbourne, FL – Residents in Florida should prepare for a sweltering week as temperatures are forecasted to reach the mid-90s, with heat indices pushing temperatures to a dangerous 100-107 degrees. Alongside the oppressive heat, scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected to return this afternoon, extending throughout the week. The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a warning for all east-central Florida beaches, highlighting a high risk of life-threatening rip currents. Beachgoers are strongly advised to stay out of the water as rip currents can drag even the most experienced swimmers into deeper waters.

According to the National Weather Service, not all areas will experience rain today, but the chances of thunderstorms increase as the week progresses. This brings a heightened risk of storm hazards, including winds gusting up to 40-50 mph, frequent lightning strikes, and heavy downpours.

Looking ahead, temperatures will continue to hover in the mid-90s through Tuesday, with a slight chance of showers. By mid-week, Wednesday through Friday, the region will see a 50% chance of rain and storms, with temperatures slightly cooling into the upper 80s. However, the heat index will still make it feel much warmer. The weekend will also remain unsettled with continued storm chances and temperatures in the high 80s.
