Orlando, FL – A high-risk rip current warning is in effect for Florida’s east coast beaches through Wednesday, making conditions extremely dangerous for swimming. Local authorities and the National Weather Service (NWS) strongly advise against entering the ocean due to life-threatening rip currents and rough surf. Onshore winds up to 25 mph are contributing to hazardous beach and boating conditions, with waves between 5 and 7 feet expected.
According to the NWS Melbourne office, the coastal hazard advisory warns beachgoers of strong rip currents along popular spots, from Daytona Beach to Melbourne. The rough surf poses risks not only to swimmers but also to small watercraft. Residents and tourists alike are encouraged to heed all posted warnings and remain cautious along the shorelines. For those inland, strong gusts and scattered showers will add to the blustery weather conditions affecting Central Florida through midweek.
Looking ahead, scattered thunderstorms are expected through Wednesday night, bringing a 30-50% chance of rain across the area, particularly in the afternoons and evenings. Wednesday’s high will be around 85°F, with gusts possibly reaching 25 mph. These conditions are forecast to persist into Thursday, with the potential for isolated lightning storms in the afternoons.
As the weekend approaches, Central Florida will see a break in the wet weather, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s expected by Friday. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware through the week and avoid coastal waters while rip currents remain hazardous.
