Tampa, FL – Boaters across the Tampa Bay region are being urged to use caution as a Small Craft Advisory takes effect tonight (Thursday) and continues through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Tampa Bay.

Gusty winds are expected to increase throughout the day, reaching 20 to 25 knots in central and northern waters and 10 to 20 knots in southern areas, including Tampa Bay. Offshore, gusts may climb as high as 30 knots, with seas building to 5 to 7 feet.

According to the advisory, bay and inland waters will be choppy to rough, creating challenging conditions for smaller vessels. The NWS cautioned that inexperienced boaters should avoid going out during this period, as strong winds and hazardous seas could make navigation dangerous.

The advisory area includes nearshore and offshore waters north of Englewood, extending across the Tampa Bay area and along Florida’s west coast. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by Saturday evening as winds decrease.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, secure loose equipment, and check marine weather alerts before heading out.
