Richmond, VA – The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Winter Weather Advisory covering much of central, eastern, and southeast Virginia, as well as portions of northeast North Carolina, for Monday, Dec. 8.
Snow is expected to develop during the morning hours, with accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches across the region. Heavier totals are likely around the Richmond metro area, Tri-Cities (Petersburg, Hopewell, Colonial Heights), and portions of southeast Virginia.
- Central Virginia (including Richmond, Chesterfield, and Henrico): 2–3 inches possible from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday.
- Northern and Eastern Counties (including Goochland, Louisa, New Kent, and Middlesex): up to 2 inches from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Southeast Virginia & Northeast North Carolina (including Suffolk, Newport News, Elizabeth City, and Norfolk): 1–3 inches from 10 a.m. to midnight.
Forecasters warn that snow-covered and slippery roads are likely during both the morning and evening commutes, especially on untreated surfaces. Visibility may also drop during heavier snow bands.
Residents are urged to use caution while traveling and check road conditions via 511 in Virginia or DriveNC.gov in North Carolina. The system is expected to taper off by late Monday night.
