Albuquerque, NM – The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Freeze Watch covering a wide stretch of central and eastern New Mexico, including the Albuquerque and Santa Fe metro areas, effective late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.
Forecasters warn that sub-freezing temperatures as low as 24 degrees are possible in colder valleys, with Albuquerque’s low-lying Rio Grande areas expected near 28 degrees. The watch includes Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Clovis, Portales, Roswell, and surrounding counties across the Middle Rio Grande Valley, South Central Highlands, Upper Tularosa Valley, and Eastern Plains.
In addition, Curry and Roosevelt counties remain under a Wind Advisory through early afternoon Tuesday, with north winds up to 50 mph expected before calmer—and much colder—conditions move in overnight.
According to the Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions may kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and harm outdoor plumbing. Residents are advised to wrap pipes, drain sprinklers, and cover plants before temperatures fall after midnight.
Meteorologists say some areas could see a hard freeze, marking the first significant cold outbreak of the season.
