Central & Eastern Illinois Dense Fog Advisory: Low Visibility Until 9 A.M. Tuesday

Lincoln, IL – Drivers across central and eastern Illinois are waking up to hazardous travel conditions as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln has issued Dense Fog Advisories through 9 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the NWS, visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less in dense fog across several counties, including Moultrie, Coles, Douglas, Edgar, Shelby, Cumberland, Clark, Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland, Lawrence, Piatt, Champaign, and Vermilion. Impacted cities include Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Charleston, Mattoon, Effingham, Paris, Lawrenceville, and Robinson.

Forecasters warn that the fog could create dangerous driving conditions, particularly along interstates and rural highways. Morning commuters are advised to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles.

The fog is expected to gradually lift after sunrise, with improving visibility later this morning. Until then, travelers should allow extra time for their commute and prepare for sudden drops in visibility in low-lying areas.
