Hanford, CA – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for parts of central California’s Sierra Nevada through 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.

The warning covers Yosemite National Park (outside the valley), Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and nearby mountain communities including Shaver Lake, Grant Grove, and Wawona. Forecasters expect 1 to 2 feet of snow, with up to 3 feet possible on the highest peaks.

Snow levels are hovering between 6,000 and 7,000 feet, bringing hazardous travel conditions to high-elevation roads and passes. The NWS warns visibility could fall below a quarter-mile at times due to falling and blowing snow.

According to meteorologists, travel may be “very difficult to impossible” through Wednesday evening, with the Tuesday morning and evening commutes especially impacted. Drivers are urged to avoid travel if possible, and to carry emergency supplies — including food, water, and flashlights — if they must drive in affected areas.

Major roads such as Highway 168 and 180 could experience closures or long delays as snow intensifies overnight.
