Hanford, Calif. – Central California will see an uptick in thunderstorms and heavy showers late this week, raising the chance for localized flooding from Fresno through the Sierra foothills. The heaviest rain is expected Thursday into Friday, with conditions lingering until early Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Marginal Risk (5 to 15 percent) for excessive rainfall has been issued, with a 30 to 60 percent chance that some areas could receive up to a half-inch of rain in a 48-hour period. Storms could bring quick downpours capable of causing runoff in flood-prone areas, particularly in the Sierra Nevada and foothill communities.
Cities including Fresno, Visalia, and Merced, along with popular outdoor destinations such as Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, could see slick mountain roads, reduced visibility, and flash flooding near creeks and streams. Travelers are urged to allow extra time, avoid low-lying crossings, and stay weather-aware if camping or hiking in elevated terrain.
Moisture will taper by early Saturday, but forecasters warn additional advisories may be needed if rainfall intensifies.
