Hanford, CA – A strong Pacific weather system is expected to move through the Pacific Northwest next weekend, spreading moisture south into central California, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.

The agency projects that rain chances will increase Saturday night into Sunday, with the potential for a quarter inch or more of precipitation across portions of the Sierra Nevada, foothills, and northern San Joaquin Valley. The forecast map shows the highest probabilities — 40% to 60% — over Mariposa, Yosemite, and Bass Lake, while lower chances near Fresno, Visalia, and Bakersfield range from 10% to 25%.

Meteorologists say this will be a weaker, moisture-limited system, but it marks one of the first significant fall storm patterns of the season for the region. Cooler temperatures and light showers are expected through Sunday evening before conditions dry out early next week.

Residents planning weekend travel in the Sierra foothills should be prepared for wet roads and reduced visibility.
