Fresno, Calif. – Rain is likely to soak parts of Central California through Friday afternoon, with the Sierra Nevada foothills facing the greatest chance for steady showers. Communities near Yosemite Valley, Mariposa, and Oakhurst hold a 70 to 80 percent chance of seeing at least a quarter inch of rainfall by 5 p.m. Friday, which could lead to slick roads and slower commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, rainfall will also push west into the San Joaquin Valley, where Fresno, Visalia, and Lemoore have a 40 to 50 percent probability of measurable rain. Drivers should anticipate wet pavement, reduced visibility, and possible ponding in low-lying areas during heavier downpours.
Travelers heading through foothill routes such as Highway 41 near Oakhurst and Highway 140 toward Mariposa may encounter steady rain. Yosemite National Park and Shaver Lake are expected to pick up some of the highest totals in the region. Motorists are urged to slow down and give themselves extra time on the roads.
Rain chances taper off Friday night, but more systems could arrive early next week. Updates will be issued as new advisories are posted.
