Yosemite Lakes, CA – A minor earthquake struck just southeast of Yosemite Lakes Wednesday afternoon, briefly shaking parts of eastern Fresno County. The magnitude 2.6 quake hit around 10:28 a.m. local time at a depth of roughly 19 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

According to the California Integrated Seismic Network, the tremor was centered about three kilometers southeast of Yosemite Lakes and was automatically recorded as part of the Northern California Seismic System. No damage or injuries have been reported, though the quake was likely felt lightly in nearby communities such as Coarsegold and Oakhurst.

The event serves as a reminder that the Sierra Nevada foothills remain seismically active, even though most local earthquakes are small and rarely cause damage. Residents are encouraged to secure heavy objects, review emergency plans, and keep an earthquake safety kit accessible.

Seismologists note that aftershocks are unlikely with a quake of this size, but nearby residents should report any shaking to help improve regional monitoring. No additional seismic alerts are currently in effect for the area.
