Hanford, CA – A dangerous stretch of triple-digit heat is gripping the San Joaquin Valley, with Hanford expected to reach 102°F today and climb even higher through early next week. Afternoon highs will peak near 104°F on Sunday, and overnight lows will remain in the upper 60s to low 70s, offering little relief from the heat.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will stay above 100°F daily through at least Tuesday, with the hottest period expected from Sunday through Monday. Northwest winds of 5 to 10 mph will do little to offset the intense heat, and prolonged exposure could lead to heat-related illness. Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Cooling centers in Kings County remain open, and residents are encouraged to take advantage of air-conditioned spaces during peak heating hours. Pets should be kept indoors or in shaded areas with plenty of water.

The heat wave is expected to break slightly by Wednesday, when highs will dip into the upper 90s. Until then, heat safety precautions remain essential.
