Fresno, CA – A Flood Watch remains in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon, October 13–14, for portions of the central Sierra Nevada and surrounding foothills, including Yosemite Valley, Bass Lake, Oakhurst, and the Kern River Valley, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Forecasters warn that moderate to heavy rainfall—with rates between 0.20 and 0.40 inches per hour—could cause flooding of rivers, streams, and low-lying areas, particularly in Fresno, Tulare, Madera, and Mariposa counties. Localized thunderstorms may intensify rainfall and raise the risk of debris flows near recent wildfire burn scars.
Excessive runoff could lead to road closures and rapid water rises in smaller creeks. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid flood-prone areas, monitor local conditions, and prepare for possible Flood Warnings if rainfall rates increase.
The National Weather Service advises those in the Sierra foothills and mountain communities to stay weather-aware and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
