Hanford, CA – Central California is experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures projected to reach between 100°F and 117°F over the weekend. Heat advisories remain in effect for the San Joaquin Valley, while an Excessive Heat Warning is in place for the Kern County Desert until 8 PM PDT tonight. Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Hanford, above-normal temperatures are likely to persist, peaking today with highs around 106°F in Hanford. The worst-case scenario shows temperatures exceeding 110°F in some areas, such as Tranquility and Lost Hills.
The Climate Prediction Center has also released a forecast showing cooler conditions on the horizon. A favorable upper-level trough is expected to pass through the region later this week, bringing a 33-50% chance of below-average temperatures from September 12 to 20. Northerly winds on the back end of the trough will play a role in the cooling trend.
As the region braces for extreme heat, officials urge residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours. The heatwave is expected to continue into the early part of next week.
