Arkansas – Red taillights glow through a gray blur as freezing fog settles across central Arkansas, clinging low to roads and river valleys. The air feels damp and sharp, and bridges glaze over before drivers realize what’s happening. Conditions remain hazardous early, even where pavement looks merely wet.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, widespread freezing fog developed overnight and continues into the morning hours. Temperatures in the lower 20s allow moisture to freeze on contact, creating black ice on roads, overpasses, and sidewalks. Visibility may drop suddenly, especially near the Arkansas River and low-lying areas.

In Little Rock and North Little Rock, freezing fog gradually lifts later this morning. Even then, slick spots linger on untreated streets. Drivers along I-30, I-40, and Highway 67 should reduce speed and allow extra braking distance. Any melting during the day refreezes quickly after sunset.

Friday brings partial sunshine but little warmth. Highs reach the mid-30s, with brisk north winds pushing wind chills into the teens. By Friday night, temperatures fall near the low teens. A slight chance of light snow develops late, with minimal accumulation expected. Still, even a dusting can worsen travel when pavement temperatures stay cold.

Saturday stays bright but cold. Highs top out near the upper 20s, and the air feels biting. Saturday night brings clear skies and another hard freeze. Pipes, pets, and plants remain vulnerable through early Sunday.

Sunday offers gradual improvement. Sunshine helps highs climb into the upper 30s, easing road conditions through the afternoon. Looking ahead, early next week trends milder, with precipitation chances increasing slightly by midweek as February approaches.

Move carefully this morning, plan ahead for refreezing at night, and check on neighbors who may need help staying warm. Seeing icy roads where you are? Share what conditions look like nearby.
