LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to sweep across Arkansas starting Friday, with central and eastern regions facing up to two inches of rain over Veterans Day weekend. Officials warn of potential flash flooding, especially along major highways such as I-40 and I-30, where heavy downpours could create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, rain chances increase Friday morning, intensifying through the weekend as a front moves across the state. Residents in eastern Arkansas should prepare for isolated thunderstorms and rainfall accumulations that could lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and near rivers.

Friday’s Forecast: Temperatures will range from the high 50s to low 70s, with overnight lows dropping to the mid-40s in northern Arkansas and near 50 in central areas. Scattered showers are likely in the morning, increasing in coverage through the afternoon. Winds are expected to pick up, gusting to 15 mph.

Weekend Outlook: Saturday is expected to bring the heaviest rainfall, particularly in central to eastern Arkansas, with the most intense storms likely in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will reach around 70°F during the day, with lows in the upper 50s overnight. Flash flooding remains a concern, especially in areas with poor drainage.

Sunday’s weather will begin to clear slightly, though showers may persist, especially in eastern areas. By Monday, Veterans Day, drier conditions are anticipated with temperatures in the low 70s, providing a brief respite before another potential weather system mid-week.

Drivers should exercise caution, avoid flooded roadways, and monitor the latest weather updates throughout the weekend. Check local forecasts and prepare for delays, especially if traveling on I-40, I-30, or I-55.
