In southeastern California, the western portion of Joshua Tree National Park is under Freeze Warnings from 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9 to 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, with temperatures expected in the upper 20s to lower 30s. A Wind Advisory is also in effect there from 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9 through noon Friday, with north winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts up to 55 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service warns that frost and freezing temperatures may kill crops and sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to protect plants and take steps to prevent pipes from freezing.

Early-morning travel may be affected in colder valleys, particularly in wind-prone or rural areas.
