Charleston, West Virginia – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across large portions of West Virginia and southeastern Ohio, with accumulating snow expected to create hazardous travel conditions into Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the advisory continues until 10 a.m. EST Thursday and covers southeast Ohio along with central, northern, northeast, southern, and southeast West Virginia. The advisory area includes major population centers such as Charleston, Parkersburg, Beckley, Clarksburg, Huntington suburbs, Logan, Fayetteville, and surrounding communities.

Forecasters expect additional snowfall totals ranging from 2 to 4 inches overnight into early Thursday. While snowfall amounts are moderate, the National Weather Service warned that roads may quickly become snow-covered, particularly on untreated surfaces.

The hazardous conditions are expected to impact the Thursday morning commute, especially for drivers traveling before temperatures rise later in the day. Slippery conditions are likely on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads across the region.

Impacted areas include counties stretching from Washington County, Ohio, through the Kanawha Valley, northern West Virginia, and into the southern coalfields and mountain communities. Rural routes and higher elevations may experience more persistent snow cover.

Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use caution while traveling overnight and early Thursday. Officials recommend checking current road conditions by calling 511 or using state transportation websites before heading out.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve later Thursday morning, though lingering slick spots may remain on shaded or untreated roadways after the advisory expires.
