Charleston, WV – Periods of rain are expected across much of West Virginia through the weekend, followed by much colder and windier conditions early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, scattered showers will continue today as a frontal boundary moves through the region and then stalls to the south tonight. Additional rounds of rain are expected Friday and Sunday, with a brief break on Saturday.

Forecast graphics show high temperatures today ranging from the upper 40s to 50s in the mountains and 50s to mid-60s in the lowlands. Similar conditions are expected Friday, with mountain highs in the upper 30s to mid-50s and lowland highs in the mid-50s to 60s. Saturday is expected to be milder and drier, with sunshine returning for parts of the region.

Looking ahead, the National Weather Service said more rain will spread into the area on Sunday ahead of a cold front, followed by gusty winds and much colder air as the front moves through. Forecast notes indicate potential for a wintry mix on Monday, though details remain uncertain.

The outlook suggests drier conditions returning by the middle of next week after the colder air settles in. Residents planning holiday travel are encouraged to monitor updates as conditions change heading into early next week.
