Madison, Wis. – Wildfire smoke drifting from Canada has pushed air quality to unhealthy levels across Wisconsin, prompting a statewide Air Quality Advisory through 12:00 p.m. Monday, July 14. Sensitive groups—including children, seniors, and anyone with heart or lung disease—are urged to limit time outdoors as PM2.5 pollution climbs into “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” and “Unhealthy” categories.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the thickest smoke and worst air quality are expected in northern counties such as Vilas, Ashland, and Oneida, where periods of “Very Unhealthy” AQI are possible. In central and southeastern areas, including Madison, Milwaukee, and Fond du Lac, air quality will remain poor into Monday morning, with the lowest concentrations forecast for the far southwest.

City-specific impacts include reduced visibility and the smell of smoke in Milwaukee, increased health concerns in Green Bay and Appleton, and potential disruptions to outdoor activities across Dane, Waukesha, and Racine counties. Those with asthma are advised to keep rescue inhalers nearby, while residents should avoid strenuous exercise and keep windows closed.

Canadian wildfire smoke will continue to impact the region until midday Monday. Additional advisories are possible if winds shift or smoke lingers. For current conditions, visit Wisconsin Air Quality.
