Green Bay, Wis. – Flash flooding is possible across central and eastern Wisconsin from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday as intense thunderstorms bring 2 to 3 inches of rain in just a few hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Flood Watch is in effect this afternoon and evening for a wide swath of the state, including Marathon, Portage, Wood, Waushara, Shawano, Waupaca, Outagamie, Brown, Kewaunee, Winnebago, Calumet, and Manitowoc counties.
Cities at highest risk include Wausau, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Appleton, Green Bay, Oshkosh, and Manitowoc. Officials warn that runoff from the downpours could rapidly flood roadways, creeks, and low-lying areas, especially in urban zones with poor drainage.
Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads and monitor local alerts for flash flood warnings. Those in flood-prone areas should move valuables off the ground and prepare to shelter in place if needed.
This is the most widespread summer flood threat so far this season in northeast Wisconsin. Residents are advised to charge devices and check local emergency notifications.
Warnings may be upgraded later today depending on rainfall rates and storm movement.
