Richmond, VA – The National Weather Service in Wakefield is warning that a widespread hard freeze is expected early Tuesday morning, November 11, as a strong cold front ushers in much colder air across Virginia.
According to the NWS, temperatures will fall into the upper 20s to near freezing across nearly the entire region—from the Piedmont through coastal Virginia, including Richmond, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach. Forecasters say the cold air will arrive Monday night, with freezing conditions likely lingering into early Tuesday.
A hard freeze, defined as temperatures of 28°F or lower, could cause damage to sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing. The weather service advises residents to take precautions now by insulating exposed pipes, covering outdoor plants, and ensuring pets have adequate shelter.
Daytime highs will struggle to reach the upper 40s to low 50s Monday and Tuesday, well below seasonal averages. Warmer air is not expected to return until midweek.
