Birmingham, Alabama – Rain and occasional thunderstorms are impacting parts of Central Alabama today, with the greatest coverage focused across the southeast counties before drier and slightly cooler conditions settle in by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, rain chances will continue through the day, with a few thunderstorms possible at times, mainly across the southeastern portion of Central Alabama. Areas from Montgomery and Troy through Auburn and Eufaula are most likely to see steadier rain, while locations farther northwest, including Hamilton and Jasper, see more limited activity.

High temperatures today will range from the upper 50s across far northwest Alabama to the upper 60s and lower 70s in the southeast. Birmingham is expected to reach around 60 degrees, while Montgomery and Troy may push near 70 as warmer air lingers ahead of the front. Winds will shift through the day, turning northerly at 5 to 10 mph behind the front, with occasional gusts elsewhere as the system moves through.

Rain tapers off this evening, with decreasing cloud cover overnight. Lows tonight will range from the lower 30s across the northwest to the mid 40s in the southeast, allowing for a noticeably cooler feel by daybreak.

Sunday brings a quieter pattern, with partly cloudy skies, north to northeast winds around 5 mph, and highs ranging from the lower 50s northwest to the lower 60s south. Roads should dry quickly, and no hazardous weather is expected.

Forecasters say the dry, cooler conditions will hold into Sunday night, with additional updates provided if rain coverage today expands farther north than expected.
