Birmingham, AL – Strong to isolated severe storms are expected to impact parts of central Alabama tonight, bringing gusty winds and hail as a cold front moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
The threat window runs through 2 a.m. Saturday, with storms developing this evening along the U.S. 80/I-85 corridors and spreading northward. Forecasters have issued a Level 1 (Marginal) risk for severe weather, meaning isolated storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to quarter size.
Areas including Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Demopolis are all within the primary risk zone. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few stronger cells may cause brief power outages or downed limbs.
The NWS urges residents to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and a plan to move to shelter quickly if warnings are issued. Showers are expected to taper off after 2 a.m. as the front exits the state, with cooler and breezy conditions settling in by Saturday morning.
