BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Central Alabama is getting a rare late-August cool down as a cold front pushes through the region, dropping highs into the 70s and low 80s Tuesday and bringing overnight lows in the low to mid-60s. For residents used to sweltering late-summer heat, the drop will feel closer to fall.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, most cities including Birmingham, Anniston, Gadsden, and Tuscaloosa will see highs topping out in the upper 70s to low 80s Tuesday. Montgomery, Selma, and Eufaula will be slightly warmer, reaching the mid to upper 80s. Tonight, widespread lows will settle between 61 and 66 degrees, some of the coolest readings in weeks.
The cooler air is expected to stick around through midweek, with partly cloudy skies and only limited chances of rain. Drivers may notice extra morning fog in low-lying areas due to the cooler overnight conditions. The NWS reminds residents that while this cooldown offers a welcome break, warmer weather is likely to return in early September.
