Birmingham, AL – An overnight frost advisory has been issued for much of central and northern Alabama, as temperatures are forecast to drop to near 36 degrees early Friday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham issued the alert Thursday afternoon, warning of frost formation between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. CDT Friday.
According to the NWS, the advisory includes a wide area of the state — covering Jefferson, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Blount, Calhoun, Etowah, Dallas, and Marion Counties, among others. Residents across the Birmingham metro, Tuscaloosa, Gadsden, and Anniston regions are urged to take precautions to protect outdoor vegetation.
Frost can cause damage to sensitive plants, flowers, and crops, and the agency advises residents to bring potted plants indoors or cover them overnight.
This advisory signals one of the first widespread frost events of the fall season, as cooler air continues to move southward across the state.
