Birmingham, AL – The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Freeze Watch for much of northern and central Alabama, along with a Dense Fog Advisory early Saturday morning. Temperatures are expected to plunge into the upper 20s to near freezing late Sunday night into Monday morning.

According to the NWS, the Freeze Watch is in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning, covering counties including Jefferson, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Blount, Calhoun, and Talladega. Meanwhile, dense fog is creating visibility under a quarter mile early Saturday across Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, and Chambers Counties, where drivers are urged to use caution.

Meteorologists warn that the cold snap could kill sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents should wrap exposed pipes, drip faucets, and bring pets indoors before temperatures dip below freezing.

The coming freeze marks the first widespread subfreezing event of the season across the region, signaling an early winter arrival for much of Alabama.
